Canker Self Inspection Workshops

Growers around the state took part in canker self inspection workshops held in Sebring, Arcadia, Ft. Pierce, Wauchula, Immokalee and Bartow.  Participants were eager to learn how to detect citrus canker.

Materials were presented and provided, teaching growers the differences between common citrus diseases and citrus canker.  Proper protocol for suspect detections stressed  leaving the leaves in place rather than risking additional spread by transporting the suspect leaves.  Participants will take this information and begin self inspecting their groves.  The program was designed to reach everyone involved with citrus, enabling all personnel to help solve the problem at hand.  A Spanish session was also given in Arcadia .

Hopefully through this effort, we will collectively be able to stop canker and continue raising healthy producing citrus in the state of Florida.  It has been said that knowing is half the battle, we now must turn this knowledge into success.  Self inspection is now a mandatory state requirement, to be documented with annual compliance agreements.  Additional training & materials are available by contacting your local canker office.
